Jay D. Deschamps

Deschamps, Dr. Jay D. – 24, July 1931

St. Helens, Oregon- Dr. Jay D. Deschamps formerly of Ogden, Utah, prominent St. Helen’s dentist passed away, surrounded by family and friends, November 13, 1995 after an extended illness. He was 64.

He was born July 24, 1931 to Parley and Luceal Deschamps in Malad City, ID. He was educated in City schools in Malad, ID.

He served a tour of duty with the U.S. Navy in San Diego, CA. Before going on to the University of Oregon at Eugene, for his degree of Doctorate in Dentistry.

He graduated Suma Cum Laude with honors and a grade point of 4.0. He was decreed DMD, He had a brilliant photographic memory. He loved to read history and could recite from memory the works of Keats, Shelley, Browning and most of Robert Service. He loved all wildlife and his dog Hazel.

Dr Jay D. was a many faceted man. He loved to fish. He was well known to be one of the finest fisherman in the state of Oregon, knowing the Mighty Columbia River so well. He also loved frog gigging.

He was a great cook and liked nothing better than to barbecue for family and friends at his home. He loved Park City, Utah.

Dr. Jay D. practiced for a short time in Ogden, Utah and then was offered an opportunity to join a retiring dentist in St. Helen’s, which he did in December, 1963. he moved to St. Helens with his wife Pearl and baby boy Spencer.

Dr. Deschamps was married to Gail Hill of Malad City, ID. And this union was blessed with three daughters, Jana, Julie Kay, and Audrie. They were later divorced.

In October, 1962 he was married to Pearl O. Daffron by Bishop Lawrence Burton. This union was blessed with his only son Spencer J. on July 16, 1963. They were later divorced.

Dr Jay D. was a member of the Latter Day Saints (Mormon) Church.

Survivors are his son Spencer J. Deschamps and wife Joanie, Gresham, OR. and his wife Joanie, Gresham, OR. Daughters Jana, Julie Kay and Audre, Layton, UT. Also survived by a mother Luceal Deschamps, St. John, ID.; a brother Monte, Kelso, WA. Grandchildren, nieces, nephews, a dear Uncle David and Aunt Carol of St. Johns, ID. His former wife Pearl O. Gibbs, Ogden, UT. He was proceeded in death by his father Parley Deschamps. St Johns, ID.

We will miss you dear one.

A memorial service for him will be held at the Benevolent Order of Elks in St. Helens, OR.
