Services Wednesday For Jacob Peabody

Funeral services for Jacob Peabody, 77, former Malad resident who died Saturday in a Tacoma, Washington Hospital, were held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Malad Second ward chapel with Bishop Myron Sorensen presiding.

Henry B. Pingel offered the family prayer. At the chapel, prelude and postlude music was played by Charlotte Evans. Prayers were offered by Wesley Crowther and Steven Junior Peabody. Speakers were Bishop Hubert Gleed, Thomas D. Evans and Ila Mae Cunningham who also read the obituary. Vocal numbers were a duet, Iris Barker and Leora Brown, accompanied by Ruth C. Davis; solos, Louis Yearsley and Jenkin Palmer, accompanied by Myra Jean John.

Raiford Benson dedicated the grave. Flowers were carried by Mr. Peabody’s granddaughters under the direction of Dana Benson.

Bearers were DeeJay Williams, Joseph H. Pingel, Terry Shaffer, Berton E. Williams, David Williams and Thorold J. Peabody.

Interment at the Malad City cemetery was directed by the Benson Funeral Home.

Mr. Peabody was born Aug. 23, 1882 at Malad, the son of Semion[sic] E. and Frances Clark Peabody.

He married Martha Lusk Jones at Malad Dec. 22, 1904. She died Dec. 10, 1931. He married Annie St. Germaine at Blackfoot in 1937. The family moved to Tacoma in 1944 where he was employed by the city of Tacoma until his retirement three years ago.

Mr. Peabody is survived by his wife, Tacoma; three sons, Joseph S., Aston; Thorold, Baker, Ore.; LeRoy, Rexburg; four daughters, Mrs. Thomas E. Richards, Bremerton, Wash.; Mrs. Bert Williams, Malad; Mrs. Henry Pingel, Blackfoot; and Mrs. Ned N. Shaffer, Tooele, Utah; a sister, Mrs. Fannie Gilmore, Portland, Oregon; 28 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren.
