
SMITH, HELEN BIRD, November 6, 1922 – September 20, 2008
Helen Bird Smith, 85, passed away September 20, 2008 at McKay-Dee Hospital. She was born in Logan, Utah on November 6, 1922, a daughter of Matthew Fifield Bird and Louise Perry.
Helen married Willard Mac Smith on June 16, 1940. He passed away on April 24, 1999.
She was a member of the LDS Church where she served faithfully and diligently in her callings. Due to her exceptional skills as a homemaker she was often called as the home making leader.
Helen was an excellent seamstress, homemaker and gardener. She is fondly remembered for sewing hundreds of baby clothes, Christmas pajamas for all her grandchildren and the intricate quilts enjoyed by her family. Homemade dinner and cinnamon rolls, noodles, dill pickles and pies were specialties from her kitchen. Helen was an avid reader, loved serving those around her and was the champion of family traditions. She was lady ahead of her time and could do anything. She persevered to the end.
Surviving are her children: Bert (Peggy) Smith of Victor, Idaho; Lynn (Steve) Tanner of Layton, Utah; and Keith (Cindy) Smith of North Ogden, Utah; 11 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Perry Bird; five sisters: Willa Beth Magruder, Maureen Douglas, Minnie Lou Woodland, Carol Johnson and Ann Hansen.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Mac Smith; two brothers, David and Richard Bird.
Funeral services will be held September 26 at Myers Mortuary, Ogden. Interment will be in the Holbrook, Idaho cemetery.
