Harold James Castleton dies in Logan

Harold James Castleton, 88, died April 5, 1982, at his home in Logan.

He was born August 17, 1893 in Salt Lake City, a son of Arthur Robert and Ellen Wooley Castleton. He married Hilda Jane Howard October 10, 1917 in the Logan LDS Temple.

He had lived in Malad, Garland and in Logan for the past 25 years. He was employed with the Utah Idaho Sugar Company for over 30 years.

At the time of his death he was a high priest in the Logan 5th LDS Ward. He had served two missions, one to the Eastern States Mission and one to the Northern Indian Mission.

He had been active in the choir and was noted for his beautiful voice and had sang (sp. sung) at many funerals. He was president of the Ward Genealogy Committee, counselor in the Sunday School presidency. He was an advisor to the Deacons and scout master and had served as a Temple Officiator for nine years.

He is survived by his wife, one son, Ralph H. Castleton, Costa Mesa, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Ben E. (Merle) Call, Bountiful, Mrs. Bryce J. (Louise) Ericksen, Mesa, Arizona; Mrs. Raymond W. (Mary) Hall of Cedar City; 18 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren.

Survivors also include four brothers, A. R. Castleton, Salt Lake City; Melvin E. Castleton, Tremonton, Lennard S. Castleton, Montpeilier (sp. Montpelier), Idaho and Leon J. Castleton, Malad; one sister Mrs. Ruby C. Fatin (sp. Flatin), Malad. A son, Stanley H. Castleton, preceeded (sp. Preceded) him in death.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 8, 1982, at 12 noon at the Logan 5th LDS Ward chapel under the direction of Bishop Elwood Rassmusson.

Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.
