ELAINE JONES CASTLETON (Birth 12 Sep 1912/Death 4 Feb 1986)

MALAD — Elaine Jones Castleton, 73, 61 W. 300 N., Malad, died Tuesday at her home of cancer.

She was born Sept. 12, 1912 in Malad, to Bernard A. and Mary L. Jones Jones. She grew up and was educated in Malad and was a graduate of Malad High School. She later attended the University of Idaho Southern Branch, majoring in business.

She married Leon Joseph Castleton Sept. 3, 1935 in the St. George, Utah LDS Temple.

She had lived in Provo and Moab, Utah. From 1936 to 1945, she lived in Thomas; since then, she had resided in Malad. She served as clerk to the Oneida County School Board and the Oneida County Hospital Board.

She was a member of the LDS Church and served as stake Primary president and twice as ward Relief Society president. She served two missions with her husband, one to Little Rock, Ark. and the other to Nauvoo, 111. She also worked with her husband as a temple officiator in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple. She had recently taught the gospel doctrine class in Sunday school. She was a member of the Belletrist Club, War Mothers and the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

She is survived by her husband, Malad; three sons, Don B. Castleton, Pleasant View, Utah; Douglas J. Castleton, Leth Bridge, Canada; Lowell D. Castleton, Preston; two daughters, Mrs. Stuart (Helen) Duncan, Orem, Utah; Mrs. Con (Jean) Alder, San Paulo, Brazil; 38 grandchildren; four brothers, Roland and Keith Jones, both of Malad; Edward Jones, Phoenix, Ariz.; Blair Jones, Bountiful, Utah; and three sisters, Mrs. Mabel Gabbott, Bountiful; Mrs. Arthur (Leah) Schutt, Otis, Ore.; and Mrs. Harold (Edith) Doutre, Paul.

Funeral services were Monday at noon in the Malad LDS Fourth Ward chapel with Bishop Clarence Kent officiating.

Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 10, 1986 at 12 o’clock noon in the Malad LDS Fourth Ward Chapel with Bishop Clarence Kent officiating.

Casket bearers were T. Arthur Schutt, Keith Jones, Edward L. Jones, Roland B. Jones, Harold Doutre and J. Blair Jones.

The family prayer was offered by Douglas J. Castleton. Prelude and postlude music was played by Tammy Williams.

The invocation was given by Stuart V. Duncan, after which an organ and piano duet “The Lord’s Prayer was performed by J. W. Crowther and Hope Price.

Mabel Jones Gabbott told her life sketch and offered remarks. H. Ward Thomas gave a tribute.

The song “Each Life That Touches Ours For Good” was sung by Don B. Castleton, Douglas J. Castleton. Prelude and postlude music was played by Tammy Williams.

Bishop Hubert S. Gleed and Don B. Castleton spoke. Bishop Clarence Kent offered remarks.

“I Need Thee Every Hour” was sung by Don B. Castleton, Douglas J. Castleton and Lowell D. Castleton. They were accompanied by Tammy Williams.

The benediction was given by Bishop Conrad T. Alder.

Concluding services were in the Malad City Cemetery. The dedicatory prayer was offered by Lowell D. Castleton. Care of the flowers and compassionate service was by the Fourth Ward Relief Society, Gloria Gleed, President.
