HAROLD GRANT MOSS CRUSHED TO DEATH IN TRUCK ACCIDENT

Harold Grant Moss, 24, was killed April 23, 1948 between 3 and 4:15 o’clock when he was crushed between the frame and dump box of a gravel truck on a county road in the Arbon Valley near the Oneida-Power county line. Mr. Moss was employed by Oneida County as a dump truck operator.

Officers who investigated the accident, believe that while Moss, who was alone, was greasing the truck, the mechanism which holds the dump truck elevated gave way.

The body was found by Don Jensen, Arbon Valley farmer, who was hauling grain and who had talked with Moss just an hour and fifteen minutes earlier.

Upon notification by telephone, W.E. Thomas, Malad City Chief of Police, Nephi Lewis, County Coroner, George Tovey, County Commissioner and Guy Benson, Malad mortician, went to the scene of the accident, made an investigation and brought the body to Malad.

Mr. Moss was born at Malad, May 1, 1924, the son of George H. and Amelia Thomas Moss. He was a graduate of the Malad high School and attended the U of I, Pocatello, for one year. He went into training in the US Navy Air Force, Dec. 10, 1944 and released in July, 1946. He was married to Larue Camp, Dec. 6, 1945. Mr. Moss was a Priest in the LDS Church and a member of the Ernest W. Jones American Legion post.

He is survived by his widow; an 18 month old daughter; his mother; maternal grandfather, Daniel R. Thomas; two uncles, DeRoy Thomas, Long Beach, Calif., and LaMar Thomas, Malad; two aunts, Mrs. Sarah Crose and Mrs. Blanch Foster, Long Beach, Calif. His father died three years ago

Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Third Ward LDS chapel. Prayer at the home was given by Hugh Griffiths and Bishop Jesse Hughes of the Malad Third Ward read the obituary and presided at the church service.
