Griff Davis dies Tuesday
Griff J. Davis, 79, died Tuesday, February 12, (1980) in the Oneida County Nursing Home after a long illness.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 15, in the Malad LDS Third Ward Chapel with Bishop Garth Sweeten officiating.
He was born Nov. 9, 1900, in Malad, to Joseph R. and Eliza Jones Davis. He grew up and was educated in Malad. On Aug. 21, 1920, he married Vernal Mae Caldwell in Malad. The marriage was later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple Nov. 18, 1965. She died Nov. 18, 1971.
He worked several years for the Malad Lumber and Hardware Store. In the early 1940’s he started working for the Union Pacific Railroad, retiring in 1963. He was a lifetime resident of Malad and a member of the LDS Church. He was an elder at the time of his death and had served as a home teacher. He had been a member of the Modern Woodsmen for several years.
Survivors include five sons and seven daughters: Claire J., Roy, Utah; Vaun, Riverdale, Utah; Boyd, Brigham City, Utah; John R., Idaho Falls, Terry K., Idaho Falls; Mrs. Odell (Erma) Price, Arleta, Calif.; Mrs. Danny (Emily) Sheridan, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Ray (Marlene) Thomas, Malad; Mrs. Tim (JoAnn) Archibald, Longmont, Colo.; Mrs. Darwin (Pearl) Tolbert, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Darwin (Rosalie) Browning, Bellevue, Wash.; Mrs. James (Deanna) Johnston, Roseville, California; 40 grand-children; 39 great-great-grandchildren; one brother and one sister: Arthur Davis, Idaho Falls, and Pearl Davis, Malad.
Family prayer was given by Glen Davis; invocation, Thomas J. Parry; vocals, Connie Budge, Bishop Foster Ipsen; talk, Bishop Hubert Gleed, Bishop Nathan Yearsley; benediction, Ward Thomas; accompanists, Trudy Ward, Iris Blaisdell.
Burial and concluding rites were held at the Malad City Cemetery. J. Claire Davis dedicated the grave. Funeral arrangements were b y Benson-Horsley Funeral Home. Casket bearers were Gary Archibald, Steven Davis, Laurel Thomas, Jerry Davis, John Thomas, Kirk Tolbert, Troy Browning.
