Griff Davis Sr. (Birth 06 May 1861/Death 08 Nov 1946)

Griff Davis Sr. was born May 6, 1861, at Clover Creek, Rush Valley, Utah. He was married to Hannabelle Anderson at Salt Lake City on Nov. 29, 1887.

In 1885 he went into the sheep business, making his headquarters at Salt Lake City. He made frequent trips into the Malad valley and in 1891 the family moved to Malad and made their home.

In 1907 Mr. Davis sold his sheep interests and began the installation of the Malad water system which he managed until a few years before his death in November, 1946.

Mr. Davis was one of the organizers of the First National Bank of Malad and for many years served as a director of that institution. He was also interested in other businesses in Malad and for 40 years represented an eastern firm in the purchase of wool in southern Idaho and northern Utah.

At the time of his death, The Idaho Enterprise commented editorially as follows:

“In the death of Griff Davis Sr., Oneida county and southeastern Idaho lost an exceptionally fine citizen—a man of spotless integrity and absolute honesty. His life was an exemplification of truthfulness fairness and benevolence. He never intentionally did an injustice to his fellow man, and never did a charitable service with the hope of reward.

“He was vitally interested in the welfare of the community and ever ready to lend assistance to any worthy cause. He was pleasant, courteous, careful of the feelings of those with whom he associated. He never made a decision which his conscience didn’t approve. He had great faith in his fellow men and their trust-worthiness, and always manifested the keenest interest in the welfare of his friends.”
