FORMER MALADIAN DIES IN GOODING

Funeral services for George Walter Thomas, 81, Pocatello resident who died Thursday in a Gooding hospital after a lingering illness, were held at the Malad Reorganized LDS Church with Elder Robert Dickerson officiating.

Family prayer was offered by Jarvis Johnson, the invocation by Gene Chaney and the benediction by Paul Mills. Speakers were D. Dredge Thomas, who also read the obituary, and Elder Dickerson. Vocal solos were sung by Helen E. Jones and Jenkin Palmer. Accompanists were Myra Jean John and Cherryl Budge. The prelude and postlude music was by Myra Jean John.

Concluding rites were at the Malad City Cemetery with Raiford G. Benson offering the dedicatory prayer.

Friends and the Ladies Aid of the Reorganized LDS Church were in charge of the flowers.

The casket bearers were E. Boyd Jones, Randy Jones, Ralph T. Jones, Timmy Jones, Morris Bunce and Don Lee Thomas.

Benson Funeral Home was in charge of the services.

Mr. Thomas was born Jan. 5, 1882 in Malad, a son of George Hugh and Hannah Dredge Thomas. He was married to Mary Jones on Jan. 28, 1903 in Malad.

He had farmed in the Daniels, ID area until 1928 when he moved to Pocatello and was employed by Union Pacific Railroad. He retired in 1958.

Surviving are his widow, one son, Julian J. Thomas, Pocatello; one daughter, Mrs. Edward B. (Lula) Jones, Malad; six grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; two brothers and two sisters, Horatio Thomas, Montpelier, ID; Steve Thomas, Mrs. Mary Ann Stuart and Mrs. Bessie Johnson, all of Malad.
