George Stuart, Jr. dies at Idaho Falls

George Stuart, Jr., age 67, of Idaho Falls and a former Malad resident, died March 12th in an Idaho Falls hospital after a long illness.

Mr. Stuart was born Dec. 20, 1908 at Malad, a son of Benjamin and Charlotte Jones Stuart.

He married Mary Alta Owens and she died July 5, 1935. He married Verna A. Wakley at Farmington, Utah on Dec. 19, 1935.

Mr. Stuart received his education in the Malad schools, worked as a butcher and meat cutter and was also engaged in road construction as a heavy equipment operator. He moved to Idaho Falls in 1949. Mr. Stuart was a member of the LDS Church.

Survivors include his widow of Idaho Falls; one son and two daughters: Verlin Stuart, Idaho Falls; Mrs. Barney (Dorothy) Lewis, Boise; Mrs. Calvin (Margene) Criddle, Downey; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two brothers and one sister: Floyd Morse Stuart, Ogden, John Morris Stuart and Mrs. Mary S. Williams, both of Malad.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Benson Funeral Home.

Bishop Karl T. Homer presided with Counselor Robert Blaine Moncur, of the Idaho Falls 15th LDS Ward Bishopric, conducting.

Thomas T. Colton offered the family prayer, and LaMar Thomas the invocation.

Karen Criddle drew a life sketch of Mr. Stuart.

Speakers were Wayne Josephson, and R.B. Moncur, who gave remarks.

The benediction was delivered by Jerry D. Toponce.

Prelude and postlude music was provided by Pearl Stuart and accompanist were Patsy Bybee and Lottie Hemsley.

Helen Jones and Wanda Edwards sang a duet, and Bishop Lyle Bowen gave another vocal selection.

Concluding rites were held at Malad City Cemetery where Calvin Criddle offered the dedicatory prayer.
