Former Malad Man Buried at Tooele

A number of Malad people motored to Tooele, Utah, Sunday to attend the funeral of George Richardson, 50, who died at his home in Tooele on Feb. 15 [1940]. Funeral services were held in Tooele and interment was in Sandy.

George Richardson was born in Malad[,] March 24, 1890[1893], the son of George and Eva Stuart Richardson. He attended schools here and later became the telegrapher in the local station. He worked at telegraphy for a number of years during which time he also studied law, and was admitted to the bar and became county attorney at Tooele, holding that position at the time of his death.

He was married in 1910 to Elizabeth Evans of Malad. They were divorced later [December 20, 1911] and he married again in Utah [to Eunice Olive Wellington]. He is survived by his wife and two children, his mother, Mrs. George Richardson and a brother, Edgar Richardson of Brigham City and a brother, Cameron Richardson of California.

Those attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hughes, Mr. and Mrs. Heber Evans, Mr. and Mrs. George Stuart, Mrs. James McKay, Ben Stuart, Evan Stuart, and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Richardson.

Tooele County Attorney Dies Of Heart Attack

TOOELE, Feb. 15. – George S. Richardson, 47, Tooele County attorney and county Democratic chairman, died at his home here last night at 11:10 of a heart attack.

He had taken part in court proceedings here yesterday and had seemed in good health, it was reported, He had suffered for some time from what was thought to be a minor heart ailment and according to his wife, Mr. Richardson’s condition was probably aggravated by his returning too soon to his work after a recent influenza illness.

Taking a leading part in Democratic circles for several years, one of his last activities was serving as county chairman of the President’s Birthday Ball.

He was admitted to the Utah bar in 1926, and in January, 1937, he was appointed county attorney. At about the same time he was named Democratic chairman and moved from Stockton to Tooele City to make his home.

He recently was honored by appointment to the legislative committee of the Utah State Bar Association;.

Mr. Richardson was born in Malad, Ida., March 26, 1893, a son of George and Eva S.[Eva Evelyn Stuart] Richardson. He moved as a young man to Brigham City, where he served as station agent for the Union Pacific Railroad. He was employed by the company at the time of his appointment as county attorney. He also worked at one time for the Southern Pacific Railroad.

Surviving are his wife; two children, Shirley, 10, and Boise, 3; his mother of Brigham City; two daughters by a former marriage, Mrs. Evelyn Nicholls and Mrs. Corma Wilde, both of Brigham City; two brothers, Edgar J. Richardson of Brigham City and Cannon L. Richardson of Palo Alto, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services have been set tentatively for Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Tooele Second (North) Ward chapel.

Richardson Funeral Is Set

TOOELE, Feb. 17. – Funeral services for George S. Richardson, Tooele County attorney and county Democratic chairman who died Wednesday night at his home here of a heart attack, will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Tooele Second (North) Ward chapel under the direction of Bishop Marcellus R. Clark.

Friends may call at the home, 34 Glenwood Avenue, from 10 a.m. until time of services tomorrow.

Interment will be in the Sandy Cemetery.
