George LeRoy Nelson

NELSON, G. LeROY, June 18, 1916 – July 28, 2003

George LeRoy Nelson, 87, passed away July 28, 2003, at his home in Juniper, Idaho.

He ws born June 18, 1916 in College Ward, Utah to George and Lela Ann Austin Nelson.

He married Lillian Barrus of Groveland, Idaho on September 29, 1936 in the Logan LDS Temple. They were married for 66 years and are the parents of six daughters and two sons.

LeRoy’s family made their home in Howell, Utah until he was about three years old. At that time, they moved to Juniper, Idaho, where he resided until the time of his death, being a resident of the area longer than any other individual.

As a farmer he raised wheat and beef cattle.

LeRoy was the first grandchild of James and Annie Nelson of College Ward, and the oldest living member of their family until his death.

He was a faithful member of the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various callings in the Juniper Ward, the Logan 1st Ward and the Malta Wards.

LeRoy and Lillian served an agriculture mission in the South Dakota Northern Indian Mission in 1972-73.

LeRoy was a faithful husband and father, known for being a man if integrity and charity.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, two brothers, and two grandchildren, Susan Larkin and LeRoy Eugene Exeter.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian; sister, Rita Black; brother, Merrell Nelson; eight children, 50 grandchildren, and 85 great-grandchildren.

His children include Carla and Arthur Exeter of Pocatello, Noreen and Eugene Larkin and Louise and Kent Nielsen of Roy, Pauline and Weldon Sleight and George and Virginia Nelsonof Logan, Starlene and Gary Draper of Wellsville, Berniece and Jerry Spendlove of Price, and Zeldon and Mary Lynne Nelson of Juniper.

A viewing will be held Thursday, July 31 from 6-8 p.m. at the Allen-Hall Mortuary, 34 E. Center St., Logan. There will also be a viewing Friday, August 1 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. at the Logan 1st Ward building, 89 S. 200 W., with the funeral following at 12:00 noon. LeRoy’s son-in-law, Bishop Weldon Sleight will officiate at the funeral.
