David George Nelson III, 1 December 1920

Our father, and mother’s eternal companion passed away July 20, 2002 in Bountiful, UT surrounded by his loving family.

He was born December 1, 1920 in Brigham City, UT to David George Nelson, Jr. and Mattie Eliason. Dad was raised in Snowville, UT and married Kathalee Bowen of Malad, ID in the Salt Lake Temple. They were nearing their 56th wedding anniversary this year.

He worked for many years for the Federal Government in the Bureau of Reclamation and retired in 1989. He served his country in the Navy in WWII where he participated in the invasion of Okinawa. As a Captain in the Wyoming National Guard he was called to serve in the Korean conflict and was decorated for his service.

He was a High Priest in the Woods Cross 3rd Ward. He served in many callings for the church, including Bishop and High Counselor in the “Val Verda Bountiful Stake. He served in the Eastern States Mission (1942-44), and as a temple worker for 11 years. His favorite calling was that of a home teacher and was a life time 100% home teacher.

His greatest pleasure in life was spending time with his family. He put many miles on his cars supporting his family all over the country. He and mom raised seven children and later adopted Judie into our family. He currently ahs four grandchildren serving full time missions.

He is survived by his wife and children, Sherlene Oliekan, Judie (Rusty) Glaittli, David G. IV (Zeffie), Clyde B. (Tauna), Lori (David) Cerar, Miles Kim (Leslie), Kelly (John) Exon, Kristin (Kent) Bagshaw; 35 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; brother, Dallas Nelson (Margaret), and sister Kay (Eugene) Bigler. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Rolf, sister Beverly Davis, grandson, Mckay and nephew Alan.

Funeral services will be held July 25, 2002 in the Val Verda Stake Center. Interment, Lakeview Cemetery.
