DORIS GIBBS NELSON

MANTUA – Doris Gibbs Nelson, 91, passed away January 24, 2012 peacefully at her home.

Doris was born in Portage, UT on October 4, 1920, a daughter of David Parkinson and Azella Morris Gibbs. She grew up in Portage and graduated from Bear River high School.

Doris married Lee G. Nelson on July 12, 1940 in the Logan LDS Temple.

Doris grew up in Portage, UT, lived in Brigham City for one year and the rest of her life in Mantua, UT. She was an active member of the LDS Church and had worked in numerous organizations. Doris volunteered at Brigham City Hospital for over 20 years. She enjoyed quilting, writing poetry, crocheting, genealogy, ceramics, music, public speaking, and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren.

Preceded in death by husband, Lee G. Nelson; brothers, Donald J. Gibbs, Gale Gibbs, brother-in-law, Robert Denny; sister-in-law, Robert Denny, sister-in-law Ada Gibbs, parents, David and Azella Gibbs; two grandsons, Brett Nelson and Chris Nelson.

She is survived by daughters, Dorene (Ralph) Valentine, Clearfield, UT; Carol Lee (Gary) Norman, Mantua, UT; sons, Gordon L. (Marilyn) Nelson, Perry, UT; David M. (Janet) Nelson, Clarkston, UT; and Brian D. (Debbie) Nelson, Mantua, UT; 24 grandchildren; 56 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; sister, June Denny, Greenacres, WA; and brother, Noel (Barbara) Gibbs, Mr. Pleasant, UT; sister-in-law, patsy Gibbs, Sparks, NV.

Funeral services will be January 28, 2012 in the Mantua Ward Chapel. Interment in Mantua Cemetery.
