Dr. Gail Zundel Lewis passed away peacefully on June 29, 2002 in Malad, ID. He was born December 3, 1919 in Mesa, AZ to John Dudley and Rosethela Mae Zundel Lewis. He married Edith Larsen on September 8, 1944 in Portland, OR. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on December 28, 1944. He later married Gwendolyn Sutton Sorensen on July 1, 1983 in Malad.

Gail attended Mesa High School where he earned football all-state first team recognition as guard. He pursued his academic and football careers at BYU, 1938-42, receiving a B.S. in horticulture and all conference football recognition. He graduated from North Pacific College of Oregon (Doctor of Dental Medicine) in 1945. He practiced dentistry for forty years in Bountiful and Salt Lake.

A soft spoken, gentle giant, Gail loved life and his fellowmen. He learned the value of hard work and the importance of family during his boyhood days on the farm in Arizona. He had many interests including working the ground to produce a beautiful yard and garden, fishing, sports fan, making jewelry, leatherwork, needlework, various arts and crafts, and culinary skills. There were few projects he couldn’t accomplish with his hands. We will remember his sense of humor.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gail had great faith in his Savior, Jesus Christ, which was reflected in how he treated all he met and in everything he did. He demonstrated patience and endurance. He loved and cared deeply for his family, immediate and extended, and relished in their achievements. He is loved and will be missed until we meet again.
