JOHN MARLO LEWIS

John Marlo Lewis, 86, of Malad passed away Sunday, July 10, 2005, at the Oneida County Long Term Care Center.

He was born July 15, 1918, to John and Mollie Jones Lewis in Malad. He graduated from Malad High School in 1936. He attended University of Idaho, Southern Branch, now Idaho State University, and played football for two seasons.

On October 15, 1939, he married Dorothy V. Smith in Pocatello, Idaho.

Marlo worked as a range rider for the Cattlemen’s Association and retired after 20 years with Utah Power as a journeyman lineman. He also refereed football, basketball and wrestling. He was a 50-year member and a Past Master of Malad Lodge #51 AF and AM. Horses and all things western were of great interest all of his life.

He was husband to Dorothy, a Dad to Marilyn Dee Koompin of American Falls and Roxanne Knickrehm of Pocatello, a friend to sons-in law Chris of American Falls and Bill of Pocatello, and a grandfather to Dane of Boise, Morgan of Mesa, Arizona, Courtney and Clint of Pocatello. Their lives and accomplishments were his great interest.

Marlo is survived by brothers Leonel of Salt Lake City, Barney, of Meridian, Jack of Tooele, Ray of Boise and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dean and sister Nada. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made in Marlo’s name to either Shriners’ Hospital for Children, at Fairfax, Virginia, or Salt Lake City, Utah; the First Presbyterian Church, at Malad; or the Oneida County Long Term Care Center, also at Malad.

Services will be held Thursday, July 14, 2005, at the Horsley Funeral Home in Malad at 11 a.m. Family will meet friends Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday morning from 10 to 10:45 a.m. prior to services. Services are under the direction of the Horsley Funeral Homes.
