EPHRAIM THORNTON DIES AT DOWNEY
Ephraim Thornton, age 75, died January 20, 1980 in the Marsh Valley Hospital at Downey after a long illness.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Downey LDS Ward Chapel. Bishop William D. Fuhriman conducted the services and burial was in the Downey Cemetery.
Mr. Thornton was born Oct. 20, 1889 in Malad, a son of John Andrew Jackson and Catherine Edwina Miller Thornton. He attended grade school in Malad and high school in Pocatello.
In World War I, Mr. Thornton saw action with the US Marines at Chateau Thierry, Aines Marne, Marabach Sector and Tour Sector and was wounded a few days prior to the armistice.
He married Cora Ethel Sutton July 22, 1919 in Pocatello. They received LDS Temple endowments at Logan, November 19, 1952.
Mr. Thornton farmed near the Malad-Downey divide for most of his life. He was an elder in the Downey LDS Ward.
Survivors include his widow; one son, Kenneth, Downey; four daughters, Mrs. Glen (Myrl) Tillotson, Mrs. Frank (Bernice) Harrison and Mrs. Eugene (Wanda) Rademacher, all of Pocatello, and Ilene Thornton, Downey; seven granddaughters, nine grandsons, three great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Eliza Bassel, Pocatello.
