VERA ILENE THORNTON

Vera Ilene Thornton, 60, passed away October 6, 1990 at a local health care center following an extended illness.

She was born February 19, 1930 in Malad, the daughter of Ephriam and Cora Ethel Sutton Thornton. She had been a resident of Downey prior to moving to Pocatello in 1969, where she resided until her death.

She had attended elementary school in Downey and was a graduate of the Downey High School in 1948. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she had served on the genealogy committee of the Downey 2nd Ward and was a visiting teacher in the Pocatello 3rd Ward. She also had served as junior Sunday School secretary, Improvement Era magazine director and had received her endowments in the Logan LDS Temple, November 10, 1952.

When she was younger she enjoyed writing, sewing and the cats on the family ranch. She especially loved the outdoors and tending and playing with children. She had a pen pal in Europe for over 40 years.

Survivors include her mother, Cora Ethel Thornton; a brother, Kenneth Thornton; two sisters, Mrs. Eugene (Wanda) Rademaker, and Myril Tillitson, all of Pocatello.

She was preceded in death by her father, one sister, Bernice Harrison, one half sister, Helen Palmer and two half brothers, Darrell and Vernon Thornton.

Funeral services will be conducted October 10, 1990 at the Pocatello LDS Central Stake Center with Bishop Allan J. Hubbard of the Pocatello 3rd Ward officiating. Interment will be in the Downey Cemetery.
