KENNETH THORNTON
POCATELLO – Kenneth Thornton, 72, of Pocatello, passed away Saturday afternoon, July 29, 2000, at a long-term care center following an extended illness.

He was born April 22, 1928, in Malad, Idaho, a son of Ephraim and Cora Ethel Sutton Thornton. He attended elementary school in Downey, and graduated from Downey High School. He helped run the family farm at Birch Creek, on the Bannock side of the Malad Divide, where his father had homesteaded.

When Interstate 15 highway was put through the area, their property was sold to the state of Idaho. Ken moved to Pocatello with his mother and sister, Ilene. He went to work for the PFE, retiring in 1993, after 24 years of service.

Ken was a member of the LDS Church. He was a high priest. He had served in the YMMIA, and as a home teacher in the Pocatello Third and Foothill Wards. He enjoyed the outdoors and all kinds of wildlife that were so plentiful around the farm, where he grew up.

Survivors include two sisters, Myrl Tillotson and Wanda (Eugene) Rademacher, all of Pocatello; 22 nieces and nephews; numerous grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Bernice Harrison and Ilene Thornton, one half-sister, Helen Palmer, two half-brothers, Darrell and Vernon Thornton.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 3, 2000, at 11 a.m. at the Central Stake Center. 225 Oakwood Drive, with Bishop Glen Houghton of the LDS Foothills Ward officiating. Interment will be in the Downey, Idaho Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, Aug. 2, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Manning-Wheatley Funeral Chapel, 510 N. 12th Ave. and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church.
