ELVA ANDERSON HASLAM YEARSLEY HOFFMAN

WELLSVILLE – Elva Anderson Haslam Yearsley Hoffman, 97, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter, in Wellsville, Utah, due to causes incident to age on March 22, 2005.

Elva was born in College Ward, Utah, June 11, 1907, the daughter of James and Hansine Anderson. She attended school in College Ward and South Cache High School.

She married Francis G. Haslam on April 1, 1925, in the Logan LDS Temple. He passed away Dec. 13, 1971. In 1975 she married Melvin Yearsley, and moved to St. John, ID, Where she lived for four years. Ward members remembered her for the many beautiful flower arrangements she made for the Chapel and the kind deeds she was always doing for someone else. After Mr. Yearsley passed away she married Edwin Hoffman and moved to Logan, Utah. They had many good years together, working in the Logan Temple. He passed away in 1989.

Elva was raised in a large family of few boys, living on a farm, she learned a lot about farming and loved working with her father.

After her marriage she worked on the family farm and the Ogden Defense Depot. She also worked at the Budge hospital in Logan and was employed at the U & I Furniture in Logan for 12 years.

She has been an active member of the LDS Church. She taught Blazer Boys in the Wellsville First Ward in primary for 16 years, she was a loyal temple worker for the 20 years at the Logan LDS Temple.

She is survived by two sons and two daughters. Ladell (Amaryllis) Haslam of Weston, Idaho, Jay (Donnie) Haslam, and Elna (Richard) Hamilton, of Wellsville, Utah, Rula (Stanley) Reese of Garland, Utah. Also survived by 20 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one son, Louis Haslam, and one daughter, June Spackman and son-in-laws, Keith M. Spackman, and J. Fred Hess, and three brothers and eight sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2005, at the Wellsville 8th Ward Chapel, 195 South Center Street (old purple church). A viewing will be held at the church for friends and family preceding the funeral from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Wellsville Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Allen-Hall Mortuary.
