Elsie Smith dies Wednesday

MORRILL, NEB.–A funeral for Elsie May Smith, 84, of Morrill, who died Wednesday, January 23, in The Scottsbluff Hospital, was held Saturday, January 26, in Jones Mortuary Chapel at Mitchell with the Revs. Marilyn and Ed Spry officiating. Burial was in the Mitchell Cemetery.

A memorial has been established to Morrill Rescue Unit.

She was born April 30, 1895, at Barada. She received her early education in eastern Nebraska and in the Mitchell Valley school. She worked in cafes and for Union Pacific Railroad in Wyoming, Utah and Idaho. She and her husband had lived at Morrill for the last several years.

She was a member of War Mothers of Malad.

Survivors include her husband, Jack of Morrill; daughters, Mrs. Muriel Krueger of Scottsbluff, Mrs. Jessie Richendifer of Douglas, Wyo., and Mrs. Myrtle Fogle of Henry; sons, Joe Steiner of Buffalo, Wyo., and Art Steiner of Morrill; brother, Bert Case of Kimball; sisters, Clara Gadd of Clovis, Calif., and Viola Roethe of Santa Barbara, Calif.; 16 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, two grandchildren and a great-grandson.
