Ethel Atkinson Smith died Saturday

Mrs. Ethel Anderson Atkinson Smith, age 68, died Saturday in Oneida Hospital following a long illness.

Mrs. Atkinson was born May 4, 1906, at St. John, Idaho, a daughter of Andrew L. and Hannah Josephson Anderson. She married Charles W. Atkinson on Dec. 5, 1923, and the marriage was solemnized Nov. 25, 1925, in the Logan LDS Temple. Mr. Atkinson died April 6, 1951.

She married Samuel Smith, Oct. 1, 1951, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

Surviving are her husband; three sons, Emery C. Atkinson, Roy, Utah; Dale Atkinson, Garland, Utah, Don Atkinson, West Jordan Utah; three daughters, Mrs. Earl (Arlene) Jacques, Layton, Utah; Mrs. Verlene Illum, Blackfoot; Mrs. Harry (Carol) Garcia, Fresno, Calif.; six step-children, Boyd Smith, Bountiful; Glenn Smith, Ogden; James Smith, Parma; Gordon Smith, Twin Falls; Mrs. Tom (Lucille) Laws, Mrs. Jack (Louise) Brinkerhoff, Malad; 48 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; a brother, Arnold Anderson, and a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Hubbard, both of Twin Falls.

Bishop Phil Gillies officiated at the funeral Tuesday noon in the Malad Third LDS Ward Chapel.

Speakers were Bishop Lon W. Corbridge, Bishop Hubert Gleed, Bishop Gillies, Charlene Corbridge, who gave the obituary, and Mary Rose Jones, who gave a life sketch and poem. Family prayer was offered by David Atkinson; invocation, LaMar Thomas; benediction, Lyle Hess. A solo was sung by Dr. Gerald K. Goodenough, and a trio by Helen Jones, Miriel Dredge and Wanda Edwards. Accompanists were Dr. Bob Rameson and Patsy Bybee who also played prelude and postlude music.

Glenn Smith offered the dedicatory prayer at Samiria Cemetery.

Malad Third Ward Relief Society, Ida Smith, president, cared for the flowers.

Honorary bearers were Alfred Atkinson, David Atkinson, Lester Atkinson, and William Atkinson.

Casket bearers were Lion Atkinson, Jimmy Price, Ferrie Price, Brent Illum, Kenneth Price, Brent Illum, Kenneth Illum and Danny Blaylock.

Benson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
