EARLY PIONEER OF VALLEY PASSES AWAY

Mrs. Elizabeth Chivers Succumbs Following A Lingering Illness.

Mrs. Elizabeth Edwards Chivers, an early pioneer of Malad valley, passed away at her home in Malad, Monday, July 15, (1935) at 6 P.M., following a lingering illness.

Mrs. Chivers was born February 28, 1849 at Glen Morganshire, South Wales. She crossed the plains in 1868, at the age of 19, by ox team and settled at Salt Lake City. Later, in 1869, she came to Malad.

On February 7, 1871, she married Wm. H. Chivers. To this union ten children were born. Her husband and six children preceded her in death. Those surviving are Mrs. M.V. Rees, T. C. Chivers, of Malad, Mrs. S. T. Barrett of San Francisco, California, and Mrs. L. J. Lewis, Malad.

Funeral services are being held this afternoon, Thursday, at the First Ward Chapel.

Funeral services for Mrs. W. H. Chivers were held at the First Ward Chapel on Thursday afternoon of last week, with Bishop J. H. Dredge officiating.

The invocation was offered by James B. Jones and the benediction by Bishop Thos. D. Evans.

Musical numbers were two selections by the Tovey Brothers and company, a vocal solo by Mrs. Margaret E. Jones and a duet by Mrs. Gwendolyn E. Ward and Thomas Jones.

Speakers were J. Peter Jensen and President Thos. W. Richards.

Internment was in the Malad cemetery. Guy Servoss dedicated the grave.
