HAWKS, EARDLEY J., March 27, 1916 – April 14, 2006
CLINTON – Eardley J. Hawks, 90, was reunited with his wife of 64 years on April 14, 2006. Eardley was born March 27, 1916 and raised in Holbrook, ID, the second eldest of nine children by Ellis and Anna Hawks. While attending a dance in Brigham City, he met the love of his life, Ellen M. Hansen. One of his favorite stories to tell was bout a date they had on Christmas Eve Day, where he asked her to marry him. She said yes, and less than five hours later they were married at the courthouse in Brigham City. This marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Logan Temple.
They started their family while Eardley worked at several trades, including dam construction along the Snake River in Idaho, log mills in Oregon, various dry farms in Idaho, and then a short period in the Army during WWII, serving in the Medical Corp. In 1952 he was encouraged by his wife to take a job at Hill Air Force Base, and they relocated their family to Ogden. Eardley retired from Hill after 28 years of service, but stayed very active with gardening, bowling and his woodworking. He also worked several years as a crossing guard for Ogden City, where he enjoyed being Santa Claus for the children at Christmas.
He and Ellen were active members in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and in 1983 were called to serve a mission in North Carolina.
Eardley’s passion, love and determination kept him busy and always on the move, and on his 90th birthday he celebrated it by bowling, an activity he enjoyed doing every Wednesday and Saturday.
Eardley was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ellen; three brothers; one sister; a grandson; a great-granddaughter and two great-great grandchildren.
He is survived by three sons and three daughters, Geneva (Herbert) Bohling; Ronald (Winona) Hawks; Nolan Hawks; Linda (Lynn) Coleman; Kennith (Deanna) Hawks; Michelle (Tony) Tams; 25 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; one brother and three sisters.
