Don J. Pocock

POCOCK, DON J., February 9, 1929 – April 30, 2006

Don J. Pocock, a resident of Malad, Idaho, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2006 in the company of family members.

He was born February 9, 1929 in Milford, Utah, the first child of Don H. and Leona Stewart Pocock. He grew up in Tooele, Utah. At age 19 he served an LDS mission to the New England States.

He met Afton K. Barrington in Ontario, California. They married on September 3, 1960 in Las Vegas, Nevada. They had two daughters and one son.

He held many jobs and lived many places during his life. In the 50s he owned a tent and awning business in Tucson. In the 60s he owned a beauty salon in Twentynine Palms, California. In the 70s he owned a boot-repair shop in Tooele, Utah, a business the whole family participated in.

His broad interests included music, science, human nature and world affairs. Throughout his life, he participated wholeheartedly in local politics when he felt he could make a difference.

He is survived by his wife, Afton Pocock of Malad, Idaho; his daughters Kimie (Ken) Jenks of Lopez, Washington, and Bryna (Eric) Gierveld of Long Beach, Washington; and son Dylan Pocock of Salt lake City, Utah. He is also survived by three granddaughters, Tess, Amy and Caitlin.

Also surviving are one brother, Ben Pocock of Taylorsville, Utah; and two sisters, Velma )J.H.) Mabey of South Jordan, Utah and Janice (Jerry) Gilman of Winlock, Washington.

He was preceded in death by his brother Gerald S. Pocock.

A memorial will be held Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. in the Malad 5th Ward.
