Funeral services for Dewey William Nicholas, well known farmer and stockman at Elkhorn, were held Wednesday afternoon at the Malad Second ward. Bishop Melvin Yearsley presided. Mr. Nicholas died suddenly of a heart attack Sunday afternoon at his home.
Services consisted of the following: prayer at the home by James B. Jones; prelude and postlude, Mrs. Mariam Talbot, invocation, Bishop Yearsley; song, Howell Williams accompanied by Mrs. Golden Ward; talk, J.M. Isaacson; song, Keith Evans, accompanied by Mrs. Evans; talk, J.D. Price; song, Jenk Palmer, accompanied by Mrs. Golden Ward; benediction, James Madsen; graveside services, American Legion Ernest W. Jones post; dedication of the grave, Angus Stocking.
He was born at Malad, June 6, 1898, the son of William H. and Margaret Evans Nicholas. He attended grade school at Elkhorn and the Malad high school. Following service in the army during World War 1, he married Reila Asher of Lehi, Utah in December of 1920. Three children were born to the couple: Mrs. Nicholas died in August of 1928. Mr. Nicholas married Manilla Morgan at Ogden, Utah, January 23, 1936. He was engaged in farming and stock raising at Elkhorn all of his adult life. He was a member of the L.D.S. church, the American Legion and the Eagles Lodge.
Mr. Nicholas is survived by the following: his widow, Mrs. Manilla Nicholas; his mother, Mrs. W.H. Nicholas; three sons, Wallace D., Ronald W., and Mark A. Nicholas; three step-children, Duane Morgan, Mrs. Theda Hill and Mrs. Delma Ruegsegger; one brother, Kenneth B. Nicholas of Ontario, California; two sisters, Mrs. C.A. Marlowe, Daly City, California; and Mrs. Mary Hansen, Los Angeles, California.
