Dennis John

JOHN, DENNIS, October 3, 1924 – April 30, 2006

Our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Dennis John, 81, passed peacefully from this life April 30, 2006, after a year-long battle with cancer.

Dennis was born October 3, 1924 in Garland, Utah, the second child of Thomas Asael and Vereen M. John.

He spent his childhood years in Portage, Utah and then Woodruff, Idaho. He graduated from Malad High School in 1942. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1945 and was discharged in 1946. After returning from the service, Dennis met and married Myra Jean Williams on July 18, 1948 in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Bountiful LDS Temple on October 1, 1999.

Dennis made Malad, Idaho his home. Through the years he was employed by the Garland Sugar Factory, Dan J. Evans Contractors, Thiokol and retired from the Malad schools in 1997. He enjoyed taking care of the school buildings and grounds, but mostly being around and involved with the school activities. In his leisure time he loved to be outdoors, whether it was hiking the mountains during the deer hunt, fishing in the evening or playing horseshoes.

He is survived by his wife and children; Dan (Karen), Vernal, Utah; Doug (Tina) Belmont, Massachusetts; and Jeanette (Paul) Evans, Farmington, Uth; seventeen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters: Meda Sharp, VonnaMae Dunn; Darlene Porter (Loyd); brother, Lynn John (Betty); and sister-in-law Betty John.

Preceded in death were his parents; brother Asael Mardell; brothers-in-law, John Jacklin, Robert Sharp and Lowell Dunn; and a great-grandson Braden James John.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 6 at 12:00 noon in the Malad 2nd/4th Ward building. Family and friends may visit Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. and 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. on Saturday morning at the Horsley Funeral Home. Graveside service and interment will follow at the Malad Cemetery.
