David Phillips Dies At Inkom

Pocatello — David Phillips, 80, retired Marsh Creek rancher, died at his home in Inkom Wednesday [13 Oct 1965] evening after a long illness.

Born Dec. 12, 1884, at Malad, he was the son of Edward and Elizabeth Jones Phillips. He came to Pocatello with his family as a child and spent his early life in this area.

He was a cattle ranch foreman on the Snake River bottoms for a number of years until water from the reservoir at the newly constructed American Falls dam inundated the ranch.

For five years he was employed by the U.S. Forest Service as an overseer in road construction, including the construction of the original road to Justice Park.

On April 5, 1916, he married Grace Tyler at Pocatello.

They purchased a ranch on Marsh Creek in the Inkom area in 1927 and operated it until his retirement in 1957. During this time he served as a county district road supervisor for eight years.

Survivors include his widow; two sisters, Mrs. H. L. (Myrtle) West of Pocatello and Mrs. Maude Corr of Inkom, and one brother, Morgan Phillips of Inkom.
