Funeral monday For Portage Man Age 101

Portage — David Parkinson, 101, longtime resident of Portage, died Friday [Dec. 8, 1967] after a short illness in a Brigham City rest home.

Mr. Parkinson had been bishop of the Portage Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 22 years. He also held positions of high priest, and Portage LDS Ward Sunday School superintendent. He also completed an LDS Northwestern States Mission during 1901-1902.

He was born Jan. 31, 1866, in Wellsville, Cache County, to Thomas and Elizabeth King Parkinson. On Feb. 10, 1897, he married Annie Young in the Logan LDS Temple. She survives Mr. Parkinson.

Also surviving are two sons and three daughters, Oran Parkinson and Mrs. Pearl Howell, both of Portage; David E. Parkinson, Seattle, Wash.[sic]; Mrs. Neal (Myrtle) Thomas, Clearfield; and Mrs. Elda Nelson, Brigham City; 15 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday at Portage with burial there.
