David Lorenzo Barnes, 75, was found dead at his home in Downey, Wednesday evening, April 18. He was born to Fredrick Lorenzo and Ida Ellen Bloxham Barnes on June 22, 1908, in Downey. He was educated in Downey and spent his entire life in that area.
On November 18, 1939, he married Norma Anne Henderson in Downey. Later the marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple. She died March 22, 1975. He farmed west of Downey and also worked as a custodian at the Downey State Bank for several years. For 25 years he was also custodian for the Downey LDS Ward. He had served as ward Sunday school president, stake Sunday school president, he was a high priest, and in the elders’ quorum presidency. For many years he was a home teacher. He enjoyed raising and riding horses.
Survivors include a son, Joseph David Barnes, Malad; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Daniel Barnes, Downey; four sisters, Mrs. Cecil (Veda Ann) Wise, Downey; Mrs. Ida (Mabel) Pierson, Ogden, Utah; and Mrs. Wallace (Lavinna Joephine) Moore and Mrs. Paul (Janness) Evans, both of Pocatello. He was preceded in death by a brother Thomas Fredrick Barnes.
