Funeral Today For David Hughes

Funeral services for David Hughes, 87, Samaria, who died Monday at Malad, are being held this afternoon (Thursday) at the Samaria LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Carl Evans officiating.

Mr. Hughes was born in Samaria in 1873 and except for two years on an LDS mission, spent his entire life there.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a for Latter-day Saints. He was a bishop of the Samaria ward from 1914 to 1927; served for 17 years in the bishopric and fulfilled a mission in the Southern States in 1899-1901.

Mr. Hughes had been a member of the village board and was elected constable twice. He was also a member of the Samaria Irrigation Co.

He was a farmer and sheepman all his life.

Mr. Hughes was born March 24, 1873 to Gomer and Jane Roberts Hughes. He married Elizabeth Ann Thomas on July 17, 1895, in the Logan LDS Temple. She died in 1932.

Survivors include a son and four daughters, Chester Hughes, Mrs. Eunice Willie, Mrs. Blanch Burnett and Mrs. Roscoe Smith all of Malad; Mrs. LaVenia Palmer, Ogden. Other survivors are 20 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; two brothers and a sister, Robert E. Hughes, Salt Lake City; Rowland Hughes, California; Mrs. Catherine Cowley, Logan.

Services Thursday For David Hughes
Funeral services were conducted at the Samaria LDS Ward Thursday, Jan. 19th, for David Hughes, age 87, who died Jan. ?. Bishop Carl A. Evans officiated.
Prayer at the home was offered by Thomas Roberts. Speakers were Griff L. Jenkins, John J. Roderick and Bishop Evans who read the obituary. The invocation was offered by Llewellyn Williams and the benediction by ? Hughes. Musical numbers were solos, Eldon Corbridge and Carole Daniels; duet, Ruel Ipsen and Leora Ipsen Brown. Jessie ? played the organ prelude and postlude music.
? A. Stocking offered the dedicatory prayer at the Samaria cemetery. Flowers were carried by grandchildren and Samaria ward Relief Society, and casket bearers were Donald Hughes, Arthur Smith, Tim Burnett, David Willie, Bill Willie and Sidney ?mer. Benson Funeral Home directed the interment.
