WILLIAMS, DANIEL CLEVE – August 15, 1924 – January 23, 2003

Daniel Cleve Williams, 78, died Thursday, January 23, 2003 in Pocatello.

Dan was born August 15, 1924 in Malad, Idaho, to John H. and Eleanor Jones Williams. After high school graduation, he served in World War II and achieved the rank of Sergeant in the 398th MP Battalion. He attended Snow College in Ephraim, Utah on an athletic scholarship where he was voted all-conference in basketball and football.

He met LaZell DeMill in Ephraim, and they were married March 1, 1947. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple, October 15, 1988. He left school and moved back to Malad to work on the family farm. They moved to Pocatello, where he worked for Eddy’s Bakery. When they moved back to Malad he worked in a partnership at Malad Heating and Appliance. He also owned and operated his own furnace truck. His real love was his farm and horses. In 1968 he went to work for Continental Bakery, where he worked for 21 years. He served for 15 years on the Oneida County School Board, where he helped Malad get its new high school. He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he was a high priest. He loved sports and enjoyed watching his sons and grandchildren participate.

Dan had five sisters and four brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Velma; and his brother, Jack. He is survived by his loving wife, LaZell; four sons, Dan (Susie), Malad; Terry (Sharon), Pocatello, Kevin (Bonnie), Orem, Utah and John H., Salt Lake City, Utah; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in the Malad Sixth Ward Monday, January 27, with Bishop Larry Thomas officiating.

His kindness, wisdom and love will be greatly missed by his family.
