Dale Lorenzo Reese, (1917)

REESE, DALE L., June 16, 1917 – February 16, 2006

Dale Lorenzo Reese, 88, of Malad, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2006 at his home. Dale was born June 16, 1917 in Malad, the eldest son of Louis Lorenzo and Nettie Abter Reese. He received his education in the Malad Schools, Albion Normal Teachers College and Utah State University.

He married Helen Clark on January 17, 1938 in Cherry Creek, Idaho. To this union were born one daughter, Kay and three sons, Dale Jr., Michael and Boyd.

Dale taught school for over 48 years in Malad, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Vancouver, Washington. He was appointed to be Superintendent of the Oneida County School District for a short time prior to entering military service during WWII. He honored his country by serving in the U.S. Navy. He was assigned to the USS Sauflex in the Pacific war zone. He was very patriotic, loved his country, respected the U.S. flag, and enjoyed many outdoor activities.

Dale was an avid horseman and was responsible for establishing a Rodeo Club at Rancho high School in Las Vegas. Dale attended the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas for 19 consecutive years.

He served as the commander of the American Legion Post #65 for 12 years. He chaired the Oneida County Veterans Memorial Committee during the planning and construction of the memorial in downtown Malad. He also served on the Oneida County Hospital Board for several years.

Dale is survived by his wife, Helen of Malad; a daughter, Mrs. Kay (Gene) Caldwell; sons, Dale Jr. (Fran) Reese, Michael (Linda) Reese and Boyd Reese; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; brothers, Ludell Reese, Ray Don (Dorothy) Reese; Joseph D. (Dorothy) Reese; and a sister, Rosalie Reese.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Eva Yearsley; an infant brother; and two infant sisters.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 12 noon in the Malad LDS 4th Ward Chapel. Burial followed in the Malad City Cemetery, with military rites by the Oneida County American Legion, Ernest W. Jones Post #65.
