Clyde Robert Moss

MOSS, CLYDE R., May 7, 1920 – August 27, 2008

OGDEN – Clyde Robert Moss, 88, died August 27, 2008 at Mtn. Ridge Assisted Living of causes incident to age. He was born May 7, 1920 in Woodruff, ID, a son of George Robert and Mary Hilda Gleed Moss.

Clyde married Betty Drake on Ocober 31, 1941 on October 31, 1941 in Malad, ID. They were later divorced. He married Shirley Rae Saunders on March 17, 1965 in Las Vegas, NV. Their marriage was later solemnized in the LDS Temple. Shirley preceded him in death on July 14, 2002.

He lived in Malad, ID; Ogden, UT; and Quartzite, AZ. Clyde loved sports in junior high and high school. He played football at Mound Fort Jr. High, as a tight end. His team won the State Championship two years in a row. He also ran track for two years at Mound Fort. He and his brother Neal, along with two friends, set a new record in the four-forty which stood for over 20 years. At Ogden High School he also rant rack. He took first in the Northern Region in the low and high hurdles, and his team took first in the State in the mile relay. He loved to run.

He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in November of 1939 and valiantly served his country during World War II as a radio operator. He served in the South Pacific, North Africa, Australia, but primarily in the India-Burma Theater. He had many adventures in the war and we all (children and grandchildren) enjoyed his many stories. He was a proud veteran and was able to visit the new WWII Memorial in Washington D.C., along with three of his daughters.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as the Bishop of the Ogden 76th Ward from 1974-79. He and his wife Shirley served as Family Hisotyr Coordinators in Quartzite, AZ.

Clyde was an electrician with Robertson Electric for 27 years. He was the owner of Moss Electric, and a member of the Inter-Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

He was a Boy Scout volunteer for many years. Clyde loved bow hunting, fishing, camping, golf, horse riding, boating, water skiing, softball and he loved to dance.

He dearly loved his parents, brothers, wives, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and he will be missed by all.

Clyde resided at Mtn. Ridge Assisted Living for the past year.

Surviving are his wife, Elaine Moss (married in September, 2003), three sons and seven daughters, Gregory R. Moss, James E. (Judy) Strank, Edward A. (Cris) Strank, Jolene (Jerry) Poorte, Suzanne )John E.) Lindquist, Chris (Jeryl) Burnett, Kathy (Kerry) Bowman, all of Ogden; Raelynn (Bob) Allen, Hinckley, UT; Jean (Michael) Vomvas and JerriAnn (Dale) Bolen, both of Denver, CO; 29 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Also surviving is his brother, Ray W. (Joyce) Moss, Ogden.

Clyde was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, one brother, Neal M. (Myrtle) Moss and one infant sister, Ilene Moss.

Private family funeral services will be held at Lindquist’s Ogden Mortuary with nephew William Moss officiating. Interment, Aultorest Memorial Park.
