CLEM THORPE

Clem Thorpe, 66, Malad, died October 17, 1986 at his home of heart failure.

He was born July 8, 1920 in Malad to Ephriam and Janet Alvira Thomas Thorpe. He was reared and educated in Malad.

He married Aileen Thomas, September 18, 1938 in St. John. She died December 25, 1981.

He served in the US Navy during World War II in the 113th Seabees. Following his discharge he worked in Malad laying curb and gutter.

In 1950, they moved to Ogden where he worked at Hill Air Force Base. He later owned and operated Clem’s Heating and Air Conditioning for 30 years.

In 1961, he moved to Malad where he owned and operated Clem’s Third Creek Inn and had helped develop the Last Frontier Estates.

He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion.

He is survived by three sons, James T. Thorpe, Ogden; Clem DeLayne Thorpe, Syracuse, UT; Mark C. Thorpe, Riverdale, UT; two daughters, Mrs. Melvin (Jeaniene) Fowers, Roy, UT; Mrs. Gail (Leona) Kelley, Plain City, UT; four brothers, William Thorpe, Tommy Thorpe and Neil Thorpe, all of Malad; Lorin Thorpe, Riverdale; four sisters, Mrs. Leland (Mary) Nielsen, Ogden, UT; Mrs. Edward (Lela) Doutry, Tremonton, UT; Mrs. John (Nadine) Udy, Bear River City, UT; and Mrs. Marvin (Donna “Red”) Hansen, Spokane, WA; 17 grandchildren; and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by one sister, Ruth Smith, and two infant brothers.

Funeral services were held October 21 at the Benson Horsley Funeral Home with Bishop Melvin Fowers officiating.

Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.
