Claude Williams, 77 of Malad, and husband of Lou J. Williams, passed away early Tuesday morning, July 29, 1997 at his home of apparent heart failure.
Samuel Claude Williams was born on April 6, 1920 in Malad, Idaho. Claude was the fifth child of Edward Gleed Williams and Martha Blaisdell. He was reared on a farm in the summer at Daniels, and moved to town in the winter. As a young man he worked with his father in the saw-mill to help support the family.
Claude served in the U.S. Army during World War 11 from 1942-1946.
He married Lucretia (Lou) Jones of Malad on July 4, when he returned home on leave. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple on April 16, 1965.
Claude returned home and worked as a foreman for Marion J. Hess Construction Company. Later, he farmed for Calvin Dredge, until he started farming for himself. The past few years he had farmed on the Goodenough Ranch.
Claude was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served as Sunday school president, worked in the Young Men’s program, and was a home teacher for a number of years.
Claude enjoyed life to the fullest, and loved following the Malad High School sports program. He had many friends and always took time to visit with them. Claude was willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was never too busy.
He is survived by his wife, Lou, of 55 years, one daughter, Delpha (Lloyd) Hubbard of Malad; two sons, Randy (Kim) Williams of Pocatello, and Kerry J. Williams of Malad; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; four brothers, Dee E. Williams and Glenn B. Williams of Malad, Thayne (D.T. Sod) Williams of Arbon Valley, and Leon L. Williams of Darlington, Idaho; two sisters, Faye Caldwell and June Jones of Malad. Claude was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Percy Williams.
Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, August 1, at noon in the Malad LDS First-St. John Ward. Friends may call on Thursday evening, July 31, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Friday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Malad Cemetery, with military rites accorded by the Ernest W. Jones Post No. 65 of the American Legion. Services are under the direction of the Horsley Funereal Home of Malad.
