Heart attack claims former Malad mayor, Claude Kent, age 70

Claude Kent, age 70, former Mayor , died Wednesday morning at his home of a heart attack.

Mr. Kent served three terms as mayor and 30 years as Oneida County Party chairman. He served several years as chairman of Oneida Fair Board, and was a member and officer of Oneida Rod & Gun Club.

Mr. Kent was born April 29, 1904, at Lewiston, Utah, a son of Henry C. and Mary Ellen Smith Kent. He married Lorraine Larsen, April 26, 1922, in the Logan LDS Temple.

He had attended Utah State University, Logan, and was an active member of the LDS Church. He had operated a farm and ranch in Dairy Creek for many years.

Surviving are his widow, Malad; a son Larry Henry, Idaho Falls; two daughters, Mrs. David L. (Bonnie) Price, Salt Lake; Mrs. Don (Joann) Wylie, Lancaster, Calif.; eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Laura Barnett, Ogden; Mrs. Ellis (Beth) Kelly, Torrington, Wyo.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Malad Fourth LDS Ward Chapel with Bishop Darrell Swartz officiating. Burial will be in the Lewiston Utah cemetery.

Friends may call at Benson Funeral Home Friday evening and Saturday prior to services.
