Clarence ‘Chris’ Toland

Clarence “Chris” Toland, 72, of died Saturday, February 29, 1992, in the Oneida County Hospital.

He was born June 6, 1919, in South Webster, Ohio, a son of Andrew Jackson and Rettie Bell Cook Toland. He grew up and was educated in South Webster. Ohio, and in 1941 had moved to Downey. He married Ardyth Colton March 21, 1942, in Malad.

He had been a construction worker for several years, and later was foreman of the Oneida County road crew. He had owned and operated Chris’s American Service Station, and for 12 years had been employed as the Malad City superintendent. He was a member of the LDS church, and served as a county commissioner, and also as city councilman. He was a member of the Oneida Rod and Gun Club, and was an avid fisherman and hunter, and loved the outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Ardyth, of Malad; a daughter, Mrs. Niah (Christine) Davis, Malad: two grandchildren, Teresa and Tyler Davis, both of Malad; and a great-grandson, Zeph Davis, of Malad; one brother, Fred Toland of South Webster, Ohio: and two sisters, Chloe Braumiller, Huron, Ohio, and Florence Hearne, Little Rock, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Tim, and several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at noon in the Malad LDS Third Ward Chapel, Bishop Brad Thorpe officiating. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.
