CATHERINE PIERCE JONES

Malad, Ida., Nov. 22 (1918)—Mrs. Catherine Pierce Jones, who died at her home in St. John Nov. 10, after a brief illness, was the daughter of Margaret and Thomas Pierce of Glomarganshire, South Wales, where she was born, June 26, 1855. Her father died when she was eight years old, and at the age of 11 she left her childhood home, with her mother, one sister, Mrs. Margaret Edwards, now of Willard, and her brother Thomas Pierce of St. John, and came to America. They crossed the plains in Capt. Samuel Wright’s company, arriving in Salt Lake City, Sept. 5, 1866. Mrs. Jones having walked the entire distance across the plains. They lived in Salt Lake City a short time and then moved to Willard, where she met her husband, the late Judge Henry Jones. She was married in Salt Lake City, in December , 1875. In the fall of 1876 she and her husband came to Malad valley. They settled in St. John three miles west of Malad city, where she had since resided.

She leaves seven children, all of whom are living; they are David H. Jones, Thomas H. Jones of Malad, Mrs. Thomas J. Davis, Mrs. Don Noble, Mrs. Arch Harris, Henry Jones all of St. John and Mrs. Miles Slater of Malad; also 22 grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Margaret Edwards and a brother Thomas Pierce.
