Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Malad Fourth Ward Chapel for Mrs. Beth Canfield Owens, 86, who died Wednesday, March 6th, at a Santa Cruz, Calif. hospital after a long illness.
Mrs. Owens, a former Malad resident was married to Dr. A.A. Canfield at Malad in 1899. He died in 1917. She later married R.T. Owens in Malad. He died in 1941.
Mrs. Owens was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She was an early settler of Curley Valley and a teacher at the Stone school. She moved to Watsonville, California in 1948.
Survivors include one son, Ashley Canfield, Watsonville, Calif.; five sisters: Mrs. Ivy Sinclair, Carmel, Calif.; Mrs. Katherine Andrews and Mrs. Ann James, Oakland, California; Mrs. Harold Meek, Woodland, Calif.; Mrs. Earl McEntire, Caldwell; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Family prayer at the home was by John D. Hill. At the chapel, with Bishop J.A. Servoss officiating, prelude and postlude music was by Elsie Hubbard. Invocation was by Arthur G. Willie. Speakers were Colen H. Sweeten Sr., and John Roderick with the obituary by Bishop Servoss. Musical numbers were a vocal duet, June Crowther and Bertha Hess, accompanied by Elsie Hubbard; violin solo, Fern Willie, accompanied by Pauline Buehler; vocal solo, Wynn John, accompanied by Elma Bell. Choral poem reading was given by Ruth Sweeten with organ accompaniment by Susan Sweeten. Benediction was by Jack Owens.
