Bert Eliason

ELIASON, BERT, October 5, 1909 – August 1, 1983

Bert Eliason, 73, Downey, died Monday of an apparent heart attack. He was born October 5, 1909 in Malad to Bert, Sr. and Anna Daniels Eliason. He was reared and educated in Stone and was a graduate of Box Elder High School. He also attended the LDS Business College in Salt Lake City. He married Luzell Sorensen February 10, 1934 in Dubois. The marriage was solemnized February 20, 1935 in the Logan LDS Temple.

After their marriage they lived in Snowville, Utah, where he operated a café and service station. He also owned and operated the Curlew Motel and Eliason’s Grocery in Snowville. For many years he was engaged in farming and ranching in the Snowville area and in Marsh Valley. He had also lived for five years in Malad. The past 11 years he had lived in Downey.

He was chairman of the Public Land Committee, a member of the Idaho Cattlemen’s Assn., member of the Advisory Council for Land Management in Southeastern Idaho, and was a president of the Curlew Cattlemen’s Assn. At the time of his death he was serving with the Big Onion Grazing Assn. For several years he was on the Marsh Valley school board. In the LDS Church, hs served as high priest group leader, a financial clerk, and also had served in the Malad Second Ward bishopric.

Survivors include his wife, Downey; two sons, Dr. Clair Eliason, Monterey, CA and David R. Eliason, Snowville, UT; a daughter, Mrs. James (Patricia) Ann) Goodro, Sandy, UT; a brother, DeLone Eliason, Smithfield, UT; a sister, Mrs. Gertrude Cherrstrom, LaCanada, CA; and 25 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Parley.

Funeral services will be Friday at the Arimo LDS Ward chapel. Burial will be in the Downey City Cemetery.
