Arthur Leo Gibbs

GIBBS, ARTHUR LEO

Arthur Leo Gibbs, 90, died January 12, 1984 in the Bear River Valley Hospital in Tremonton. He was born to James Hyrum and Sarah Maria Green Gibbs on January 27, 1893 in Portage. He lived there all his life and graduated from Bear River High School.

He was a High Priest in the LDS Portage Ward, served as secretary of the Stake Genealogical Committee, and was a member of the Malad Stake Sunday School Board. He had been Sunday School superintendent of the Portage Ward, YMMIA superintendent, Sunday School teacher, Scout Master, Ward financial clerk, school teacher, farmer, Portage town clerk, treasurer and secretary of the Cemetery District and Deputy Assessor of Box Elder County for five years. He also served as president and secretary of the Portage Irrigation Company and received a Silver Beaver Award from the National BSA Scout Council.

Survivors include one brother, LeRoy E. Gibbs, Wendell, ID; and one sister, Mrs. John F. (Sarah Tilly M.) Conley, Clearfield, UT.

Funeral services were held January 16 at the Portage LDS Ward with Bishop Larry L. Howell officiating. Burial was in the Portage Cemetery.
