Malad….Arthur “Doc” Reed Smith, 74, of Malad, our father, grandfather, great grandfather and best friend went on the road again, peacefully at his home in Malad. He died following a short and courageous battle with cancer on January 1, 2010. Doc was born September 16, 1936, in Malad a son of Roscoe and Ida Hughes Smith. He was fun loving and lived his life to the fullest, with no regrets. He had so many friends that meant as much to him as his family. Doc spent most of his life doing the things he loved on his farm in Holbrook until he retired a few years ago. He married Peggy Marlene Hill on September 18. 1954 and from this union they were blessed with with four sons and one daughter; Allen Smith, Kevin Smith, Richard Smith (deceased), Scott Smith and daughter; Lynne . He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Richard, and a grandson; Tanner Safavi. The family would like to express their gratitude to all of Doc’s good friends. Services will be held on Thursday January 6, 2010 at 12 noon in the Malad Senior Citizens Center. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday evening at the Horsley Funeral Home 132 W. 300 N. from 6-8 pm and on Thursday at the Senior Center from 10:30-11:45 am.
