Alton C. Smith

Arimo…Alton C. Smith, 81, husband of Maxine George Smith, passed away on Sunday October 7, 2012 from injuries suffered earlier in an auto accident. Alton was born December 1, 1930 in Cambridge, Idaho, a son of Clinton Ellis and Almeda Mae Hancock Smith. He was raised and educated in Arimo and was a graduate of Arimo High School, Class of 1950. He married his high school sweetheart, Laura Maxine George on June 1, 1950 in the Salt Lake City, Utah LDS Temple. They made their home in Arimo, where Alton farmed with his father, Clinton Smith. He and his family moved to Soda Springs where they resided for 30 years. In 1968 he began a business he named the Alton C. Smith and Sons Construction Co. They did general construction, concrete work and home building. He was a very skilled carpenter and the building trade was instilled in his sons and they have since all built their own homes. In 1986 Alton started a cabinet building business, which he operated until his retirement. In 2006 he and Maxine returned to ARimo, where they have since resided. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had served in several callings. He and Maxine served an LDS mission to Nauvoo, Illinois. While serving there he built some items that are being used in the Nauvoo LDS Temple. He enjoyed going to Island Park and especially spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Maxine of Arimo; Children; Annette (Dennis) Stowell of Bountiful, Utah; Alan (Sandi) Smith of Afton, Wyoming; Nalene (Lionel) Ware of Arimo; Wendell (Jamie) Smith of McCammon; Brent (Christina) Smith of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Dennis (Keri) Smith of Sugar City, Idaho; Teresa and Jody of Pocatello, Idaho. 21 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters; Gloria (Sid) Kent of Arimo, Idaho; NaDene Evans of Wilsall Montana; Darlene (Dick) Nelson of McCammon. He was preceded in death by his parents; Clinton and Almeda Mae Smith. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 12, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Arimo LDS Stake Center. Friends may visit with the family Thursday evening, October 11, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Horsley’s Marsh Valley Funeral Home, 570 North Meadowview Drive in Arimo, Idaho. Family will also greet friends Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. at the Arimo LDS Church prior to the service.
