Amy Sawyer Thomas, 93 of Malad, passed away Saturday, November 12, 1994, in Aiken, South Carolina.

She was born October 6, 1901, in Malad, a daughter of Enoch and Margaret Hettie Jones Sawyer. She was reared and educated in Malad, was a graduate of Malad High School, and later attended Brigham Young Academy in Logan, Utah, and Albion Normal School.

She married William Dredge “Mormon Bill” Thomas on December 16, 1925, in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. They resided in Malad, and owned and operated a farm on the Malad Summit. Mrs. Thomas also had worked as a cook at the Oneida Hospital for a short time.

In 1954 they moved to Provo, Utah, where they lived until their retirement, when they returned to Malad. Mr. Thomas died March 31, 1976. She was an active member of the LDS Church, where she had served in many capacities, both on the stake and ward level. She enjoyed handwork, and was a master in the art of quilting. She also enjoyed sewing and growing her beautiful flowers.

She is survived by one son and his wife, Gerry and Jackie Thomas, of Aiken, South Carolina; three daughters and spouses, Donna Marie and Harvey Field of Grant, Idaho; LaJuana Atkinson of Malad, and Connie and Joe Wise of Aiken, South Carolina; 22 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, one daughter, two brothers and one sister.

Funeral services were held November 15 in the Malad LDS Stake Chapel with Bishop Brad Thorpe officiating. Burial was in the Malad City Cemetery.
