Reginald Angus Stockings, 12 September 1912

SUNLAND, CA – Reginald Angus Stockings, 84, died December 27, 1996 in Sunland, CA of causes incident to age.

He was born September 12, 1912 in Malad to George Angus and Nellie Morgan Stockings. He attended Malad schools and was a graduate of Malad High School. While in his youth, he worked with his father in the sheep camp. He always loved working with animals and spent a lot of time on the family ranch in Soda Springs. He was a member of the LDS Church.

After high school graduation, he moved to Southern California where for a time he participated in the sport of boxing, going by the name of Fighter Morgan. During this time he worked for a Santa Barbara veterinarian who encouraged him to attend veterinary school. Subsequently, he enrolled in the School of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A & M, graduating with a DVM degree in 1943. He owned and operated his own veterinary hospital in Los Angeles for many years. While thus engaged, he also worked for NASA and was responsible for implanting pacemakers in the monkeys that went into space.

Later on, he also earned a degree in Chiropractic medicine. He taught neurology at the University of Southern “California. He was listed in “The Blue Book of Important People in Los Angeles.”

While attending Texas A & M he met and married Mary Louise Buchanan in May, 1942. She died in 1970. He married Beau Stapf on March 6, 1976.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, three sisters and one brother. He is survived by his widow of Sunland; one son, Reginald of San Francisco; one sister, Loraine Stockings Allen, Malad; and many nieces and nephews who loved him very much and were very proud of him.

Funeral services will be conducted January 4 in the Benson Horsley Funeral Home in Malad. Burial will be in the Malad City Cemetery.
