Services Held In Memory of G. A. Stocking

He was Killed In Action In South Pacific, October 4

Impressive memorial services for George Morgan Stocking, U S M C, who was killed in action in the South Pacific Oct. 4, were held at the Third ward L. D. S. chapel Monday at 2 p. m. The prelude and postlude were played by Miss Charlotte Evans, the opening prayer was by Herbert Brown and Lawrence Budge offered the benediction.

Musical numbers were selections by the three Corbridge sisters; Howell Williams and daughter, Mrs. Clark: third ward quartet consisting of Ivalou and Lou jean Budge, Valene and Lucille Crowther; Tom Jones; St. John quartet consisting of Morgan and Lester Tovey, Edward Woozley and Melvin Yearsley.

The speakers were C. O. Nibert, Edward Crowther, Frank Crane of Harriman, Utah, and Bishop LeGrande Horsley. They all paid fine tributes to this young hero.

As a mark of respect to the memory of this young man, all business houses of the town were closed during the services.

Pfc. Stocking was born in Malad Aug. 28, 1925, a son of George Angus and Nellie Morgan Stocking. He was graduated from Malad high school in 1943, where he was active in athletics.

He enlisted in the marine corps in Aug. 1943, and trained in San Diego, Calif. He had been overseas since December, 1943.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by a brother, Dr. R. A. Stocking, Los Angeles and four sisters, Mrs. Hannah E. Smart, Soda Springs. Ida.; Mrs. Mary Barkdull, Pocatello; Mrs. Lydia Piscevich, Ely, Nev., and Miss Lorraine Stocking, Malad.
