J.D. Simmons dies at nursing home

James David Simmons, 68, Malad, died Friday in the Oneida County Nursing Home.

He was born Nov. 11, 1912, in Mayview, Mo., to David and Lavenia Grizzell Simmons. He attended schools in Ventura, California.

He married Edith Hadfield Oct. 11, 1939, in Inglewood, Calif. They moved to Missouri, where he worked in a steel mill briefly, then returned to California where he was employed by Lockheed Aircraft, then by the highway department until retiring.

In 1972, he moved to Malad.

He was a member of the Christian Church, and enjoyed fishing and camping.

Survivors include his widow, Malad; a son, Wayne S. Simmons, Salt Lake City; four grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Kenneth (Cleo) Palmer and Mrs. Chad (Irene) Davis, both of Hemet, Calif. He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral Services

Funeral services were held Monday, September 28, at the Benson-Horsley Funeral Home with Bishop Clarence Kent officiating.

The family prayer was given by Lynn Hadfield; prelude, postlude, Iris Blaisdell; invocation, Norman Jaussi; vocals, Leora Brown, Iris Blaisdell and Eldon Corbridge; speakers, Lynn Hadfield, Bishop Clarence Kent; benediction, Stuart Tubbs. Flowers were by the 4th Ward Relief Society, Pam Smith, President.

Casket bearers were James Hadfield, David Simmons, Michael Simmons, Lynn Hadfield, Larry Hadfield, Stuart Tubbs.

Concluding rites were in the Malad City Cemetery with Spence Horsley giving the dedicatory prayer.
