HELENA PETERSON SIMMONS
Helena Peterson Simmons, age 87, passed away June 19, 2000 in Salt Lake City of natural causes.

She was born March 8, 1913 in Samaria, Idaho, to Mary Agnes Hill and Hyrum Peterson. She attended elementary school in Garland, Utah; Malad, Idaho and Los Angeles, CA, before graduating from West High School in Salt Lake City at age 16. After attending LDS Business College, she went to work for Columbia Pictures Corporation. In 1941, she graduated from Madame Charet’s School of Costume Design after which she designed and fashioned clothing in her own shop.

Helena, together with her husband and two partners purchased and managed a successful transportation business, Carrier Transfer Company.

Of Helena’s many gifts, the greatest were her impeccable integrity, commitment to excellence and a deep love for and devotion to her family. She served valiantly in many church callings throughout her life.

Helena married Linville Symons Simmons on October 11, 1936 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He preceded her in death on July 27, 1968 in Salt Lake City. Also preceded in death by sisters Leola and Mary; brothers Hyrum, Earl, and twin brothers, Daniel and John who died shortly after birth; half sisters Viola Eulaia, Deloria; half brother Howard. Survived by daughters Lynene and Kathleen (Richard) Pulsipher; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Helena’s family is indebted to the professional staff at Eastridge Rehabilitation Center for the sensitive and loving care everyone provided her during the last five years of her life.

Funeral services will be held Sat., June 24, 2000, at 12 noon at the Monument Park 11th Ward, 1565 S. Foothill Dr. (2300 E), where friends may call Sat. morning from 10:45-11:45 a.m. prior to the services. Interment Salt Lake City Cemetery, 200 North ‘N’ Street.
