LILLIAN BARRUS NELSON

JUNIPER, IDAHO – Lillian Barrus Nelson, 88, passed away on December 21, 2005, at the Bear River Hospital in Tremonton, Utah.

She was born January 14, 1917, in Groveland, Idaho, to Ruel Melvin and Zina Emeline Hale Barrus. She married George LeRoy Nelson on September 29, 1936, in the Logan LDS Temple. He passed away July 28, 2003. They were the parents of six daughters and two sons. They maintained residences in Juniper, Idaho, and Logan, Utah.

She spent her early years in Groveland and graduated from Blackfoot High School in 1935. She enjoyed music, played the violin, and later in life taught herself to play the piano and organ. She always encouraged her children and grandchildren to develop their own talents.

Lillian was a devoted companion and mother; always caring for her family. Her interest in her extended family led her to doing much genealogy and family history work. She never lost her love of learning and was not afraid to keep up with modern technology. She became skilled at using the computer and used it to email, write monthly family newsletters, keep family records current, and write a book entitled, “Juniper and Black Pine-A History of Two Southern Idaho Communities (1875 to 1995).”

She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various calling in the Juniper Ward, the Logan 1st Ward, and the Malta wards. LeRoy and Lillian served a mission in the South Dakota Northern Indian Mission in 1972-73.

Her husband, her parents, two brothers, two sisters, and two grandchildren preceded her in death.

She is survived by her children: Carla (Arthur) Exeter of Pocatello, Idaho; Noreen (Eugene) Larkin of Roy, Utah; Bernice (Jerry) Spendlove of Price, Utah; George (Virginia) Nelson of Logan, Utah; Zeldon (MaryLynne) Nelson Of Juniper, Idaho; Pauline (Weldon) Sleight of Young Ward, Utah; Louise (Kent) Nielsen of Roy, Utah; and Starlene (Gary) Draper of Wellsville, Utah; 50 grandchildren and 110 great-grandchildren; as well as two sisters, Rosalie Campbell of Logan, Utah, and Delsa (Lowell) Campbell of South Jordan, Utah; and two brothers, Ruel (Jean) Barrus of Boise, Idaho; and Neil (Betty) Barrus of Nampa, Idaho.

Funeral services were held at noon on Tuesday, December 27, at the Logan 1st Ward Chapel. Interment was is the Logan City Cemetery.
